Fiwi
Fiwi features, tips, shortcuts:
Fiwi

a compact, faceless (it has no interface per se) application
to help with moving files and folders via 2 symmetrical Finder windows
by WordPower
proud makers of GrupaDupa
http://wordpower-software.com/WordPower/grupadupa.htm
GrupaDupa can find duplicates on any folder or hard disk in a flash
To be most useful Fiwi needs to be installed in the left sidebar of any Finder window, just above the desktop icon in the PLACES category.
Fiwi provides 2 symmetrical Finder windows on the desktop, side by side (columns) or one on top of the other (rows), and when it quits frees all memory (RAM).
The windows clear the dock wherever you keep it ( bottom right or left of the screen) and have a small gap between them.
If no windows are present Fiwi uses the Finder to create 2 new ones.
If they are already there Fiwi swaps them right to left or top to bottom.
I have installed Fiwi in the dock as well so, if there are no windows open, I just click it there.
If one window is present Fiwi resizes it and places it either at the top (rows) or left (columns) of the desktop. Fiwi creates the second window (with the user default settings for new windows) and places it underneath (rows) or to the right (columns) of the first.
If 2 or more windows are present the top 2 will be used and Fiwi leaves all the rest alone underneath them.
Fiwi also helps you reset the size of new Finder windows to one default size no matter how you resized them before running it. Once you run Fiwi they will all appear like that.
To learn Fiwi quickly please watch the video of its review by Don McAllister 181 Mac Montage
http://wordpower-software.com/WordPower/fiwi_movie.html
and/or
hear Allison Sheridan’s NosillaCast Mac Podcast:
http://wordpower-software.com/WordPower/fiwi_files/Alison%20Fiwi.mp3
Installation:
Decompress and drag the Fiwi folder to the Utilities (or any other folder) on your hard disk.
Drag Fiwi both to the dock (so you can access it even if no windows are open) and to the left sidebar of any Finder window, just above the desktop icon in the PLACES category.
Just grab Fiwi, hold your mouse button down and drag it into the far left of its own window. When you see the blue bar appear on your screen let go and you'll see its icon and name appear there.
From now on when you need Fiwi it will be there in all open windows. Easy to reach. No need to search for it.
NB: Spaces users.
In the "Expose & Spaces" preference pane, in tab "Application Assignements" please add Finder and choose "Every Space" from the pop up menu in tab "Space".
Upgrading:
To upgrade any version, trash the previous version and use the current one.
WordPower Upgrade Policy.
WordPower makes upgrades free whenever possible and keeps the price at 99 cents US.
The version of Fiwi bought works forever on that Mac with that operating system.
At times Fiwi users ask us to add new features and WordPower implements them.
WordPower makes improvements available to all Fiwi users and asks them to share in the expenses with the purchase of a new licence at 99 cents US.
Upgrade if you think the new features will benefit you.
Requirements:
Mac OSX 10.4 or later.
Usage:
First time only and optional:
In the Finder set up two windows in the format you like, side by side or one on top of the other, on the display of your choice and of the desired size then run the Fiwi set up utility provided free of charge with Fiwi.
Fiwi will remember and go on setting the 2 windows like that until you change them and run Fiwi set up again. Run Fiwi set up again and you will be able to reset Fiwi to default.
Always:
Doubleclick Fiwi to access 2 windows in column format, side by side, or in row format, one on top of the other or to swap them right to left or top to bottom.
Start up Fiwi holding the shift key down to toggle format from columns (side by side) to rows (top and bottom) or vice versa.
Settings will be remembered until you start with the shift key down again or you use the Fiwi set up utility to change them. The shift key has no effect when customised windows have been set.
Add a c or an r to Fiwi's name making it Fiwic or Fiwir to make Fiwi set up only for columns or rows until you change its name again.
NB: Fiwi set up takes precedence even if you have changed the name to Fiwic or Fiwir. Run Fiwi set up once more, choose columns or rows and Fiwic or Fiwir will work again.
Fiwi can be used to set up two windows in other applications besides the Finder. You can toggle this function on/off via Fiwi set up or by starting up Fiwi holding the option key down.
At this time Fiwi supports the following applications:
Finder 10.5.8, Script Editor 2.2.1 (100.1), Safari 4.0.3 (5531.9), Pages 4.0.2(751), Quicktime Player 7.6.2 (518), TextEdit 1.5(244), Firefox 3.5.2.
To increase Fiwi range of possible applications please enable guy scripting by checking the appropriate box in AppleScript Utility (Applications:Applescript:AppleScript Utility) end entering an admin password.
With guy scripting enabled at present Fiwi also supports the following applications:
Numbers 2.0.2 (322), Smultron 3.3 (3.3), Find Any File 1.1.2, EasyFind 4.0.1 (4.0.1), Norrkross MorphX 2.9.3 (2.9.3).
NB With guy scripting on Fiwi will also be able to recognize the dock size correctly and will create the 2 windows just clear it.
Tip:
If you drag Fiwi with the option key down you can add it to the tool bar at the top of your windows as well. To remove it drag it out of the tool bar with the command key down.
You can swap the source with the destination window by simply running Fiwi again when two windows are already present, even if they have been customised.
Fiwi will work 99 times for you without limitations in demo mode.
After that you can purchase a licence for it for only US$0.99 at our website:
http://www.wordpower-software.com
The licence is valid for one person on one machine only.
Entering the password:
Fiwi will offer you a chance to enter the password after 10 (and multiples of 10) uses. It will display a dialog box, you can click unlock and enter the password as follows:
Please copy the password making sure you have no blank spaces in front or after it.
When the box appears be sure NOT to click into it but just paste the password (cmnd v).
The encrypted password will show as one or more bullet sign.
Press the enter key.
